What is this world tuning into? Social media has all of a sudden become a scary and unsafe place? 50k Challenge, OAU student who retweeted death tweet dies after 5 days.
I guess one really needs to be careful what they participate in. This kind of challenge has been going on for sometime on social media.
There was a game on Facebook, the “No Likes” Game, where N5,000 was up for grabs to anyone whose comment doesn’t garner a like…(LOL). The game was played by many, the game gathered 51,000 comments on Facebook.
Many Nigerians were laying curses on whoever likes their comment, (all for the money).
Apparently, this game was taken to Twitter.
Several people have come up with different funny, positive and even negative things to say so people will avoid liking or retweeting their tweets to enable them win.
50k Challenge, OAU student who retweeted death tweet dies after 5 days
The tweet below was one of the many negative ones…This time, the user promised to give out N50,000 to anyone whose tweet doesn’t get a retweet.
So it happened that on 28th and 29th of April, #50k Challenge became the joke of Twitter Naija. A twitter user, @MohForPresident put up a challenge for 50k to be won.
The tweet reads: “Pls don’t retweet this post if you do so you will die #50kChallenge”.
Who would have thought this had anything to do with reality?
Here comes the weird part…An OAU Student, Ashiru Jerry retweeted the tweet alongside 15 other people.
There are now reports that Jerry has died in a car crash.
Although this could be a mere coincidence, but this is sad. Is there any likelihood that his death is linked with this challenge? It’s a bit confusing though but we really need to be careful and desist from taking part in too many things.
As for Jerry, he earlier said he participated in the challenge because he needs the 50k for school fees as his school is resuming.
I think this should be investigated though.
