Erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed hope that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will emerge successful in the forthcoming elections in 2019. He revealed why it was better for him to take responsibility for the party’s defeat to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last presidential election. The immediate past President thus said he should be blamed for the PDP loss in 2015. Goodluck Jonathan.
GEJ, as he is fondly called, made this known when one of the aspirants for the national chairmanship position of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, paid him a courtesy visit in his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
According to him, it has become his priority to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party regains the Presidency in 2019. He assured that the PDP will rise again as a strong political platform to win the next elections.
He further explained that he was working with other stakeholders to ensure that the party was well organised to achieve this purpose though he preferred to work from the back seat.
Here’s what the former president said: “Whether I like it or not, I must take responsibility for the defeat because I led the party to the election. The only thing that will make me sleep well is to ensure that the PDP comes back to power,” Jonathan added.
