Seun Kuti, son of late Afrobeat Legend Fela Anikulapo, has reacted to the statement by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, that Jesus is his father. The constant criticism of the Ooni after his statement appears to be be making waves close to a year after he said so. On Wednesday, June 29, 2016, there was an outrage after a video of the Ooni of Ife, proclaiming Jesus as his father surfaced online. Ooni of Ife is a ritualist, has no business with Jesus – Seun Kuti.
The Ooni who then had just returned from a three week trip to the United States of America, was criticized about his visit to Nigerian footballer Obafemi Martins. Nigerians then stated that he should not be going around paying visits as a respected monarch.

Some Nigerians were of the opinion that as the custodian of the Yoruba culture and tradition, which includes the deities as such he cannot be a Christian and that Oduduwa should be his father, while some asked what was wrong with him saying that Jesus is his father.
But just when we thought the dust had settled, Seun Kuti has called out the Ooni, saying a ritualist like him should not dare call Jesus his father. Although Kuti earlier said he was disappointed with the Ooni’s comment which also shows he has no respect for the throne, here’s what he said in a YouTube video gone viral…

“So, it’s back to the shame. For our Ooni to say he is a son of Jesus, you know, this is how I will answer that…Cap over face – SHAME!!!” he repeated.

“Especially after all the rituals he has done to become king of…Well, this is my answer again – Cap over face, as a Yoruba man, we should not just be like this for the next year. You know, it is just a shame. It’s just like imagining the Queen of England saying the Pope is her father, or just let her say she no longer believes in the Anglican Church of England and she swears allegiance to the Pope; a fellow Christian but a Catholic instead of an Anglican. She is leaving that throne that day.

“That will be the last day she will be queen of England. It’s not like she is diverting from Anglican to Islam or another religion, just a switch from Anglican church to Catholic Church; that’s all she needs to do and let’s see what happens. So back to the shame,” he covers his face with his cap again, saying”so for our Ooni to say he is a son of Jesus, it’s a shame…especially after all the rituals he has done,” Kuti reinstated.
