I have tasted poverty, I don’t want to ever go back there – Patoranking recalls childhood

Popular Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie better known by his stage name Patoranking, says he has tasted the good life of fame and riches and doesn’t wish to ever go back to poverty. Born and raised in Ijegun-Egba, Patoranking started his musical career doing underground collaborations with artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam and Reggie Rockstone before he signed a record deal with K-Solo’s Igberaga Records in 2010, releasing “Up in D Club” under the outfit. Patoranking recalls childhood.

He became a protégé of Dem Mama Records after collaborating with Timaya on his song “Alubarika”. In February 2014, he signed a record deal with Foston Musik and released “Girlie O”, a single that put him in the limelight.

Patoranking recalls childhood

On 9 February 2015, Patoranking announced via Instagram that he signed a distribution deal with VP Records but with all these going on for the ‘My woman my everything’ crooner, he never forgets his roots, although, he says he never wants to go back there – Poverty!

In a recent interview with Punch, the 27-year-old singer known for his Patoi slangs, said he has being in poverty and thus can not return because whenever he remembers his past life, he hustles harder to ensure he never goes back to poverty. He also vowed never to forget where he comes from.

Patoranking said, “Whenever I remember where I’m coming from, I am inspired to hustle harder. I grew up in poverty and I don’t ever want to go back to that again. If you listen to my songs, you would notice that I’m always trying to motivate people that there is no one that cannot be successful. Once you have something to offer and you work hard, the world is yours for the taking.”

Patoranking recalls childhoodOn what he is doing to support other youngsters in the ghetto, he said: “I don’t have to announce whatever help I render to people. As far as I’m concerned, it is between me and God. I help the people I can in my own little way because I believe I am blessed by God so as to be a blessing to others as well,” he added.
