President Buhari to travel to US next week
Recall that since his return to Nigeria on August 20, 2017, after 103 days of medical leave in London, President Buhari has not attended any public event outside of Aso Villa and his country home in Daura, Katsina State.
Also, he has attended only one Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting since he returned three weeks ago.
His US trip is however not connected to his ill health as it may begin to pose some thoughts in the minds of some Nigerians. Prior to this, recall that an online medium, Sahara Reporters, on Sunday, September 3, claimed President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Monday, September 4, 2017 for a trip ‘to condole with President Donald Trump over the floods in Houston’.
The online news platform had said in its report that the trip from Nigeria to the US is reportedly at the invitation of President Donald Trump. But President Buhari’s personal assistant on social media, Lauretta Onochie in a tweet said the report was totally untrue.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had also debunked the news which was widely circulated.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the minister urged Nigerians to disregard the ‘fake’ news.
